Calcified disk in neck of shihtzuQ: I have a 8 year old shih tzu who has calcium build up in his right side of neck. he was on (early june) methocarbinol and prednisone initially. now he is down to 1/4 tab of (5mg) prednisone twice a day. the nuero also gave us a prescription for oxicodone liquid form which which i have given him twice in the last week. they have told us the surgery with mri will be around 4k , we already have about 1200 in to maxx this year and don't feel we can take on any additional expenses however also dont want a dog on steriods long term. what are my options? is there a pain killer that would help him so we can take him off prednisone all together? i have also seen these harnesses that are supposed to help on alternative websites what are your thoughts on them? thanks in advance! leah A: I think harnesses are an excellent idea as well as considering holistic vet med options such as acupuncture or chiropractic from qualified vet www.altvetmed.com or vet homeopath www.theavh.org as not many other types of drugs other than limited ones you mention above. we dont do a good job with these dogs medically and surgery is no guarantee either

Flea & tick control for rabbitsQ: I was told that i need a flea product for my rabbit and i was wondering which one is safe and the best for rabbits. she lives on our screened back porch in a cage and would need something that would repel mosquitoes/flies as well. also according to your flea/tick chart biospot works to do all things a person wants for flea/tick control. is this really the best for dogs and cats with a flea problem and very bad tick problem (they are outside pets)? Hip dysplasiaQ: My vet has recommended that my dog get a total hip replacement. she has had surgery on her knee. because of her hips she popped her knee out.that surgery alone was 1000.00 dollars. then not even a week later i checked her dressing and the nail or pin had come out. they had to go back in. she cried so much. a year later the pin was coming out again pushing on her skin i had to take her back in and they had to take it out. this time 250.oo. this total hip replacement is going to cost 3,000.00 per leg. she said hers is very severe she is only 3 years old. i cant afford such a surgery. we all love her dearly. she has recomened that i put her on deramaxx or rimadyl. rimadyl is 100.00 per bottle. i wonder if i can find a cheaper price online. please if you know of anything at all i should do please let me know. she is the most sweetest loving dog. and i dont want to see her sufer. but on the other hand how long can she live this way with out the surgery? thank-you mrs.denise allen A: You could also try a veterinary acupuncturist by finding one at altvetmed.com as sometimes gold bead implants in hips can help tremendously. check with 1800petmeds pharmacist for price on meds

Medication interactionsQ: If i applied hartz topical flea drop treatment to my dog approximately 2 1/2 weeks ago and it did nothing, is it safe at this point for me to use the adams flea spray mist, or do i have to wait a specific amount of time. also, will the mist kill adult fleas, eggs & larvae?
