Which product?Q: I have a 15lb papillon 17 mos. old. which brand flea & tick product do you recommend for him. i am currently using advantage but notice you favor frontline. i noticed bio spot for dogs is inexpensive and according to your comparison chart does the same thing as the more expensive ones. thank you dolly sanders A: Biospot is another flea preventative but it is not waterproof and can be washed off. we really don't favor one product over another but the frontline plus gives added protection against the flea eggs & larvae. if you are using advantage and are satisfied with the results, "if it's not broke, don't fix it"!

Dog allergiesQ: I have a rednose pitt bull(male) in the 100 lb. range approximately 5 y.o.a. and he suffers from severe allergies. when he gets these allergies, he looks like he has been in a fifteen round boxing match and lost. eyes swollen and allmost shut, snout swollen, and welts all over his body along with excessive scratching of the side of his face and his underside... paws included. is this common with this breed of dog? also i give him 50mg.of benadryl 3x a day until allergies diminish which may take a couple of days. should i increase the dosage to 75mg.or will that be to much. any suggestion concerning this condition would be greatly appreciated. this occurs 1 to 2 times per year and it started about 3 y.o.a A: You could try increased dose of benadryl and if no help with that than you could try different anthistamines like chlortrimeton at dose of 8 mg twice daily in this sized dog or tavist at dose of 1.34 mg tablets--two tablets twice daily. of course if no help should see your vet for stronger meds. also consider supplementing with omega 3 fatty acids which can help allergies long term like brite coat es from 1800petmeds Shop for: 1800petmeds

A: Sounds like separation anxiety and you coudl ask your vet about meds like amitryptylline or clomicalm
Behavioral changesQ: I am currently 8 mths pregnant with my first child and have seen a change in my dog's behavior which has gotten progressively worse as my pregnancy advances. my yorkie is 5 years old and normally has a very sweet and loving disposition. since i became pregnant in september he has started nipping and occasionally biting me (and only me) without warning. these occurrences have become more frequent in the last few months. his overall disposition is still the same, even with me most of the time. do you have any suggestions and could this behavior be related to the pregnancy? A: Could be behavioral anxiety related to pregnancy. give him lots of love and reassurance and try giving rescue remedy several times daily from health food store which can also help
