Crusted matter around eyesQ: My dog's eyes have a thick buildup of crusted matter after a few days. i have asked the vet about it, but he seems to dismiss it. it is very unsightly and i have tried over the counter products to no avail. i am worried that he may develop an infection around his eyes because of this. he was a severly abused dog when i got him, he also had demodec mange. he's been an expensive proposition but i love him dearly. any suggestions on what else i can try. DiarehheaQ: I've recently adopted a pet. she has all of her shots and is spade. she was examined and determined not to have worms or heartworms. but she has very loose bowel movements quite often. i have not noticed any blood in the stool. is there anything i can give her to stop the diarehhea? i bought the pedigree digestive care dog food but she will not eat it. thank you A: If diarrhea persists, then you should have complete workup done at vet for chronic diarrhea to include stool giardia elisa test sent out by your vet to outside lab to check for this parasite as well as cbc/chem blood work to start. sometimes a trial with a medicine like flagyl as well as high fiber diet like hills w/d from your vet also worth a try
Limping and walking on three legsQ: My 50 # dog has been on deramaxx 1/2 of 100 mg a day for about 1 1/2 months and it seems not to been working as good as it did before. could he be getting immune to it? if he is what should i do? his left front leg is giving he troble and he is limping. x rays viewed by vet and gave him a shot of corazone. A: You may want to have neck x rayed as he may have cervical disc problem causing front leg lameness rather than the leg itself. in that case low doses of cortisone are more effective
